Hi all,
We’re currently working on a little get together for all our staff before we officially open our doors later this year.
We are a very creative company and love having themes and fun – 2019 was a Mad Hatters theme party and we all had to design our own hats and playing croquet and boules.
This year, since a lot of us can’t go abroad this year, we thought about bringing the holiday to staff and having a tiki beach party, design your best tiki mask (which brings good luck – good for the year ahead as we come back to office) and who has the best beach shirt…but…
I am very aware of the diversity and inclusion conversations and it is something me and my team (of one) will be working on once our performance management training and implementation is completed. We really do not want to offend anyone but we’re concerned about cultural appropriation if we themed a party as Tiki or a Lu’au as a celebration of us all coming together. We had been looking at venues that were doing these but we’re worried that it wouldn’t be sending the right message and we’d be crossing the line.
Has anyone got any insight or thoughts?
Many thanks, Sarah
