Just a thought from what we’ve seen work well is leaving it to manager discretion – that way they can decide what’s appropriate for each individual situation and it’s also a great way to increase their confidence in using their judgement. You might want to give them some extra support to make sure they’re making good calls, but it normally comes down to common sense and knowing their team really well. Also, it means you can introduce from day one rather than them having to prove themselves before they get it!
